What to Be Cautious of When Shopping at Food Shops
Published on Monday, 15 February 2010

Shopping for groceries is quite a routine for most people. In fact, some go on the same day every week. Others go as needed though. As soon as they notice they lack supplies, that's the time they decide to buy some replenishment. However, buying food at food shops shouldn't be taken very lightly. You have to be sure that you are buying safe and healthy food always.

For instance, when buying fruits and vegetables you have to make sure that each piece is free from damage. They must not be rotting either. The best fruits and vegetables are those that are freshly picked and delivered. You would notice it when they still look fresh and really delicious. You could even ask what day the supplier usually delivers new produce. To maintain its freshness, you should put them in the refrigerator within 2 hours after picking them up. So when you get home, you should wash them thoroughly using cold water.

Even when picking up canned goods, you should also check out the label. Canned goods usually have an expiry date. So as you pick up each canned good the first thing you should check is the expiry date. Then you also have to check the cans for swelling, leaking, holes, moisture and any other damage.

Meat produce packaging should be checked as well. They should be refrigerated at food shops. If you notice that the meat is not even cold then don't buy it. And when you get home make sure to pack them separately to avoid cross contamination.
